Two New Members of the Brown Family

Growing up, my parents pretty much let us have our own small pets as long as we would take care of them. (Yeah Right! I bet my mother is shaking her head reading this thinking of all the times she was the one cleaning out the cages of our fish, hamster, gerbil, hermit crab, guinea pig, rabbit, etc. that we had at some point during our childhood!) I didn't really think much of the fact that my parents were really OK with us having these pets. You see....I am just NOT OK with my kids having these things for many reasons. I realize I need to relax and realize they are kids and need to experience all the joys, responsibilities, craziness, etc. that pets bring to the family.

I have been very anti anything that requires attention/food/cleaning, etc. (other than my children of course!) since Landon was born. I remember the fear that crept up on Landon's second birthday when my best friend Lauren gave him an ant farm. Yes, you read that correctly....AN ANT FARM! (Lauren - I hear Charley is really wanting a hermit crab for his 3rd birthday!) To be honest, it didn't require much effort and Landon thought it was so neat. Now on to present day...

Landon has been begging for a "reptile." I began to sound like a broken record with my "no" after "no" after "no." All he really wanted was a frog or a lizard, but those do require the things that I swore I was not willing to give! (see paragraph two) After much talking, a few trips to the pet store with his Pops and Lucy and convincing him that we could not take home a frog whose skin produces poisonous toxins (why on earth would the lady at Petsmart really think selling us one of those was a good idea when she clearly saw all three of my children there with us), we settled on a fish. I actually mean....two fish. Reagan had to have her own "pet" as well!

So here you go! Meet the Brown's betas....Spike and Moses!
