Our church took a different approach to Vacation Bible School this year. We took it out into our communities in what we called, Backyard Bible Roundup. We wanted to reach those kids that would never go to church for a VBS but might head over to a neighbor's backyard. The Brown house happened to be one of the 30+ locations. We canvased our neighborhood a week before and just prayed that God would send the kids He wanted there. The temperature was soaring that week, but with the help of an air conditioned living room to fall back on and a few dear friends to help out, we made it and have labeled it a success!
ready to start the week in our Backyard Bible Roundup t-shirts
We started each morning out in the back. It was only 9:30, but I promise you it was HOT!

After the first few outside activities, we headed in for some air conditioning and a Bible story. Sweet Mrs. Angie taught the story every day! Bless her!

Mrs. Jennifer helped the kids make a blanket to donate to a child that needed one.
Wow! - That's really all I can say about this one! I was showing the kids how the relay was supposed to be run! Nice, huh!?

On Thursday night, the church hosted a big family get-together complete with a hotdog supper, a petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, bounce houses and an outdoor movie.
Payton's dinner consisted of two bags of Cheetoes and two bites of a hotdog. (I apologize for her top. We like to roll "trailer park style" in the summer.)
Train Rides
The petting zoo was so much fun! There were baby animals everywhere just waiting to be held. I think they were relieved to be in someone's arms and not on the ground waiting to be stepped on. Poor things...there were SO many kids in a small area.
Payton was not so sure about the animals, so Mommy helped feed the piglet. She must take after her big sister and her love of animals!

Reagan finally came around and loved feeding the piglet!

These were the sweet teenagers that helped out at our house. They were wonderful and we have new babysitters to call! Yippee!
This picture sums up the week. We were exhausted! Landon NEVER falls asleep and poor guy couldn't keep his eyes open that last afternoon.

As someone who just finished VBS for the first time in the Baptist church, I would take the backyard approach any day! Love that you offered up your home to do this. Want to hear more about this next week. Can't wait to see you!
I am so glad that your week went so good! I can't believe the June you guys had!! I hope you get to relax this week:). Great pictures.
