Summer is over and the school year has officially begun! Yesterday marked the first day for Reagan as a kindergartner and Landon as a second grader! When did my babies get so old? The day could not have been better and to say I am proud of these two would be an understatement! They are such great kids and I am not going to lie and say that it doesn't make me a little sad to have to share them with their teachers (whom I LOVE) for most of the day, five days a week. Their teachers are fantastic and I could not have handpicked ones that were better. I'll let the pictures show you the start to our year at Cheatham Elementary! (Cheatham is brand new! So, not only are we starting a new school year, we are starting it in a new building!)
The Thursday before school started, we went up to see the new school and meet the teachers. Would you believe that I only took two pictures?
Here they are patiently waiting to go meet their teachers!
Mr. Junco, the new principal!
On Saturday, our neighborhood hosted an ice cream social for all the kids starting school. Reagan and her friend, Sophia. They also play on the same soccer team!
This is Reagan's new friend, Avery. Avery is in Reagan's class and also will be playing on the soccer team! Yippee! It is such a small world....Avery's mommy and I grew up in the same town and went to school together. Whitney (Avery's mom) and Aunt Ernie and Aunt Alli were friends and graduated the same year.
some of the kindergartners
some of the second graders
The night before school started, we were laying out Reagan's clothes and Payton wanted to give the dress and headband a test run. Sweet Thing, this is the face I get these days when I ask you to smile for Mommy. It goes without saying, we won't be getting professional pictures taken any time soon!

We sure do love this funny girl!

We had to take some pictures on the porch before heading to school.
My Boy Love
My Girl Love
Every year we have had Landon give us the thumbs up for a picture on the first day of school. This time, it was Reagan's turn!
LP's turn
Little Sister knew something fishy was going on and she didn't like it at all!
Ready to go in!
Mommy and Reagan (both fighting back some tears!)
Did I mention how much I adore their teachers? Mrs. Meck is a friend of mine and I have prayed all summer that Reagan would get put in her class. Thank you, Jesus, that this sweet lady will be the one influencing my girl this year!
Miss Jones and Landon
Miss Jones is a first year teacher (This is a big bonus in my book! My first year of teaching was my very favorite!) and Landon loves her! God knew exactly who he would need for 2nd grade and we are so thankful for Miss Jones!
LP at his desk....not very happy with me for taking this picture! (I wanted Brad to get in there with him, but once I saw the look on his face, I knew I shouldn't even mention it.)
A funny little story about my Landon:
The night before school started I called him into the kitchen to ask if he wanted a note from me in his lunchbox. I really expected him to say, no way! He goes, "Yes, Mom! I love when you send me notes!" I said, "OK - I just didn't know if 2nd graders would be embarrassed to get notes in their lunches." He replies, "That's not until 3rd grade!" OK...now I know! Anyway, I write him a very short, but sweet little note:
Happy First Day of 2nd Grade!
I love you so much!
Love, Mommy
He gets home from school and the first words out of his mouth are, "The next time you send me a note in my lunch, don't put "Mommy" on it. Just write "Mom." Ouch...needless to say, I am probably not going to send a note anymore in his lunchbox. I don't want to be the reason that someone pokes fun at my child! ;-) He told me that no one saw it, so it was OK this time. (I'm still a little sad that I am not "Mommy" to him anymore!)
Finally, the picture below shows you the form of transportation that will be bringing my babies home from school each day. THE BUS! It lets off in front of my house, which means I don't have to wake Payton up from a nap to go get them! They could not be more fired up about this situation! They think riding the bus home is the greatest thing in the world! It is going to take some getting used to on my part, but if they are happy and it's easier on all of us, then I will learn to love it as well. I over heard Reagan (my social butterfly) telling Landon yesterday that she probably won't be able to sit with him every afternoon on the bus. She said she might have to rotate between him and her friends. :-) Oh, the life of a kindergarten socialite!
Here's to a great year at Cheatham Elementary!
Go, Cheatham Chargers!

I love this post. So sweet! And the note in Landon's lunchbox takes the cake. That is 1 memory I have of growing up is the notes that my mom would put in my lunch. I still talk about them today. =) That and the 1st time I got to ride the bus to school in Kindergarden... BUT my mom made my dad follow the bus all the way to school so he could make sure I got off and into the building ok. It's pretty funny to me how. But I can remember just how humiliating it was then. LOL
Wow...great post full of all kinds of stuff you need to remember. How crazy about the Waco girl and Reagan's new friend. Also my heart broke a little thinking of the lunch box convo. I laughed but I know the day is coming. The bus sounds like a good deal. I'm considering it for Brooks this year too. Like you said its best for the whole family and they love it! Almost forgot...Payton in Reagan's clothes with the cheese face is awesome. She's a stinker and I love it! Miss you so much. So glad you're a good blogger!
congrats to my other little favorite kindergartener!! the watwood's are so proud of you, reagan!!
p.s. sophie SO wants to ride the bus, too!! hahaha!!
p.s.s. sophie just told shane today "no more notes, dad!" already embarrassed! :(
miss and love y'all!!
That's too funny, too sweet. I'm gonna ball my eyes out when Carver goes to kindergarten. I think I'll actually cry when he goes back to MDO. Riding the bus?! So cool! Your kids are grand.
Love these big kids going to school! LP looks so old! I know I always say that, but it's true!!! He will always be a toddler to me though. :)
And---Reagan! So happy to hear she had a great first day! Wow---you're gonna have to console me next year, sister!
Give it up for the bus! Anything to let our babies nap! I'm sayin! And listen, yours truly rode the bus MANY years, and I turned out pretty good??? :)
I think I have a boy crush on Landon. Such a cutie!
Reagan not sitting by her bro on the bus everyday is hilarious!
Payton making those faces makes me laugh - she knows she's got everybody wrapped.
Love the bus and the fact that they can ride it together - I feel like that changes everything. And makes it easier for you!
And that note - breaks my heart...
Yea for back to school!! I hope they have a fantastic year. Wonderful first day pictures:-).
